Dr. Empting lectured on RSD and Sympathetically Mediated Pain Syndromes. Dr. Empting has been using the Axon-II in his private practice for over three years. Other lecturers included Robert Odell, MD, PhD, a Stanford trained MD, PhD who specializes in regional blocks, and physiatrist Steve Masse, MD, whose clinics have three spf-NCS Devices. Using spf-NCS Irwin Bush, MD and his colleague, J. Badradoja, MD, presented a paper showing a relationship between chronic prostate inflammation and S1 lesions. Also, they report this same relationship may exist with vulvadynia. Previously, this relationship with vulvadynia was reported by Margaret Hollingsworth, MD of the Medical College of Wisconsin. Alex Ambroze, MD, Associate Clinical Professor at John Marshall Medical School presented an abstract at the AASEM Conference demonstrating what appears to be a relationship between the degree of pain with the configuration and amplitude of the potentiometer. Dr. Ambroz suggests that this may allow an objective measure for the intensity of the patient's pain, which would be a big step forward as compared to the VAS. Dr. Randall Cork, MD, PhD has retired from LSU Medical Center and is now working for the VA, where his research continues. Lanny Taub, MD presented Dr. Cork's power point concerning research protocols and the future of spf-NCS. There are over 700 spf-NCS devices in use throughout the United States, including two in the UK (one at the Health & Safety Laboratory, and Canada's Department of Rehabilitation in Quebec, where a second unit was recently purchased.
